I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Political Science department at the University of Mary Washington. My teaching interests include American Government, the Presidency, Parties and Elections, Political Communication, and Research Methods and Writing. My research focuses on the psychological and institutional foundations of democratic representation. Specifically, I've published work on the effects of redistricting and how they change over the course of the ten year cycle, rhetoric, and argumentation. My work on redistricting has been published in Political Research Quarterly, Political Geography, and American Politics Research, and my work on elite rhetoric and public perceptions of rhetoric has been published in Journal of Politics, Presidential Studies Quarterly, and The Journal of Language and Politics My page includes links to my vita, manuscripts in various stages of preparation, teaching resources and some of the various accomplishments of my students, and my mentions in the media.
